The Scottish Government Consultation on the Integration of the British Transport Police in Scotland into Police Scotland
June 29th 2016
The Scottish Government Consultation on the Integration of the British Transport Police in Scotland into Police Scotland has been published this morning (available to read here).
This is a matter which has and continues to cause us concern. There are a number of key issues including the need to maintain reassurance, confidence and security in the service provided, and the ability to work in partnership with the rail industry and station staff, as well as issues directly affecting our members.
We firmly believe that policing the rail network in Scotland is best achieved by the use of the specially trained officers and staff of the British Transport Police, and that BTP Scotland should remain a central part of the force.
We are fully involved in the consultation process and are reviewing the contents of this document in detail before submitting a formal response.
Further updates on this matter will be posted here and circulated to members.
