Conference 2001 - Awards of Excellence
Awards of Excellence - South West Area
Terry WRIGHT is a constable in British Transport Police based at Gloucester.
At 10 a.m. on 1st June 2000 Terry arrived at Gloucester for duty. He saw a vehicle in the station car park occupied by male persons who were acting suspiciously. Terry suspected that drugs may be involved and approached the car and occupants. He identified himself as a police officer and in order to detain the men he reached into the vehicle to remove the keys from the ignition. At this point the driver of the vehicle raised the window, trapping Terry's arm. The driver then started the vehicle and drove along the roadway. Terry was unable to release his arm and was dragged along by the moving vehicle. This continued for a distance but eventually Terry freed himself and the vehicle sped off.
Further enquiries resulted in the arrest of three men who were charged with dangerous driving.
Terry was taken to hospital where he was treated for injuries to his shoulder, leg and back.
