On Wednesday 13th June 2001 Constable Spear was travelling in plain clothes on a train between Hertford East and London Liverpool Street.

He was approached by a member of train crew who requested his assistance with a male person who was threatening passengers and staff with a large hunting knife. He approached the male in the confined space of the carriage and persuades him to drop the knife. He then arrested this person who was subsequently charged with public order and offensive weapon charges.
