Awards of Excellence - North East AreaDetective Constable Cathryn Shaw
On 28th February 2001, a Landrover left the M62 Motorway in North Yorkshire and obstructed the lines of the lines of the East Coast Mainline. The resulting collision led to 10 fatalities and numerous serious injuries.
The driver of the Landrover was charged with 10 counts of causing death by reckless driving.
On behalf of all Officers who attended the Selby train crash Cathryn is nominated to receive our award.
She was instrumental in supporting the families of victims,
This entailed travelling throughout the United Kingdom, working long hours and showing total commitment to providing a caring and compassionate service to the families and relatives of victims. Indeed the way Cathryn and her colleagues carried out their duties received praise from the Attorney General.
