Gareth Mathias and Gary MacDermot

On Saturday 13th April 2002, constables Gareth Mathias and Gary MacDermot were on duty at Reading station.

At 17.50hrs that day, a 19yr old youth was on the station, in an agitated state he had in his possession a four-foot iron bar.

He attacked a total of four members of rail staff inflicting injuries on each one which required hospital treatment.

On arrival of Gareth Mathias and Gary MacDermot a violent struggle ensued. He was eventually disarmed and handcuffed and later charged with four counts of Actual Bodily Harm and Possessing an Offensive Weapon.
