LONDON UNDERGROUND
On Thursday 7th July four blasts rocked the capitals transport system. The attacks were later found to be the work of suicide bombers, this country's first. Initially this was not known or indeed if any further devices were due to explode.
The bombs exploded on underground trains at Aldgate, Russell Square and Edgware tube stations another bomb exploded on a double-decker bus in Tavistock Square.
Officers from the British Transport Police were immediately deployed to each location where they were met with scenes of death and destruction. The worked tirelessly for many long hours to assist the injured, recover the dead and preserve the crime scenes.
Officers, many young in service saw things that no person should ever witness but all worked in the highest tradition of the Police Service.
Many acts of heroism and bravery were performed that day with some being individually recognised by Her Majesty the Queen. Many however remained unsung heroes for their actions that day and in the ensuing weeks.
The officers who are here this evening attend not only in their own right but represent the countless British Transport Police officers who responded so magnificently that day.
Inspector- London Underground Area
The Inspector led a team of officers at Russell Square underground station who undertook an extensive search of the scene to check for the presence of secondary devices. This check was prior to any other intervention and took place amidst horrific and dangerous conditions.
Temp Inspector- London Underground Area
The temporary Inspector together with other colleague's evacuated large numbers of passengers from the bomb damaged train between Kings Cross and Russell Square. Many injured passengers were rescued from within the train.
Police Constable- London Underground Area
The Constable was one of the first officers on scene at Edgware Road station and together with colleagues assisted to rescue passengers from the devastated train.

The Police Constable was in Tavistock Square at the time of the bus blast. Together with colleagues she assisted the horrifically injured victims on the bus and then took part in the co-ordinated effort to secure the crime scene.
Inspector London Underground Area
The Inspector led a team of officers at Russell Square station on a rescue mission to save injured passengers on the train. This once again was conducted in horrific conditions.
