The British Transport Police - A Force on the Move
Introduction
Over four million passenger journeys are made every day on Britains railways whilst a quarter of a million tons of freight move from depots to docks, from factories to freight yards. The British Transport Police has the unique task of ensuring that all this takes place within a secure and safe environment.
As the national police force for Britain's railways, they are there to care for and protect all those who work on and use the railway system - with the aim of making our railways the safest in the world.
The railways are at the heart of the community, and of commerce and industry. It is an industry undergoing rapid structural and technological change and one which poses significant challenges to the people who police it.
