The British Transport Police - A Force on the Move
Specialism
The Force has some 300 CID officers, based throughout Britain often working closely with detectives from other forces and Regional Crime Squads.
Dog Handlers
This was the first police force in the world to make use of dogs in police work and their role has developed to become a vital part of operations. Trained dogs and their handlers can track and find people, evidence or even explosives. The presence of a dog handler can also be an invaluable element in maintaining public order.
Crime Prevention
Prevention is better than cure and the more that can be done to prevent crime, the less the cost and disruption to railway operators and their customers.
Support
Undertaking administrative and specialist functions to support operational police officers are over 400 civilian employees who form an integral part of the policing team.
