    Chairman's blog for October

These past four weeks have been very busy and included a first for me, in 26 years' service: an opportunity to attend the National Police Memorial Day service.

This year the service was held at St Paul's Cathedral in London and the Patron of the NPMD, Prince Charles, was in attendance. I was honored to be there in company with our General Secretary, Darren Townsend, and Treasurer Graham Poyser. Not only was this my first opportunity to attend NPMD but it was my first experience visiting St Paul's Cathedral; a very fitting venue for such a special day in the Policing calendar.

BTP Federation Blog: Update from Force Conference

The Federation met with the Police Authority on 7 October 2016 to discuss a failure to agree around the force interpretation of Regulation 34 of the Police Regulations 2003 (Annex U -Allowances) 'Away from Home Overnight Allowance'.

Latest update on plans for policing in Scotland (November 2016)

November saw us return to St Andrew's House in Edinburgh to continue discussions with Scottish Government officials and advisors on the proposed integration of BTP Scotland into Police Scotland.

These meetings offer an opportunity to share views, and yet each time we come away with a sickening sense of genuine disappointment that yet again no real detail is provided especially around the most important elements for our members (i.e. pensions, T&Cs). Members in Scotland deserve a degree of certainty around their career and financial future.
