Yesterday at an informal meeting with the Chief Executive of the British Transport Police Authority, Andrew Figgures, we were informed that the Police Authority would be seeking changes to our Pensions which would be similar to the recent alterations to Home Office Schemes introduced following the Hutton report. Changes to their schemes included a move to a Career Average Scheme and an increase in retirement age to 60 albeit with some protection for officers closest to retirement.
No formal consultation has commenced but following their approach we are submitting evidence to specialist Counsel to establish our legal position with regards to any proposed changes to our current pension schemes.
As this issue progresses to formal consultation and specific details of any proposals are known we will keep you fully informed.
