INTRODUCTION
In the wake of recent atrocity in Central London the resolve and the commitment of the British
Transport Police has continued to be tested, officers from throughout the Force have been faced with
extended hours of duty and disruption to their normal patterns of work. Whilst our officers are
concentrating on the vital task of protecting the Transport Infrastructure rumours have once again
circulated regarding a possible merger of the London Underground Area and the Metropolitan Police
Service.
This is not a time to contemplate mergers, certain Politicians and the Commissioner of the Metropolitan
Police may see this as an opportunity to further their desire for a merger but we emphatically oppose any
such move.
The combined response of the BTP, Metropolitan and the City Police to the atrocity proved the
success and effectiveness of the co operation between the Forces, this co operation continues with the
ongoing security operation.
We support the Chief Constable and Chairman of the Police Authority in opposing any such attempt
to merge a substantial portion of the Force.
