Northern Police Convalescent Home
Please be aware of the new revised admission policy for the Northern Police Convalescent Home.
Additional application requirement with effect from 1 January 2008.
With the aim of improving fairness, and accuracy, in providing the charity's benefit to serving and retired police officers, and reducing in-force bureaucracy for Staff Associations and Occupational Health Units, the following additional requirement when making an application for admission will be introduced.
With effect from 1 January 2008 all applications for admission (on every occasion and including previous attendees) will have to provide documentary proof that they make the weekly voluntary donation (currently £1 per week) to the charity. To accomplish this the admission application form must be accompanied by copies of the officer's most recent salary advice and one from six months previously which both show that the officer makes a voluntary donation to the charity either directly, or, through other force arrangements e.g. as part of a force benevolent fund contribution. Those copies will be destroyed once received and checked at the charity.
Applications for admission that are not accompanied by the appropriate copy of salary advice documents will be returned to the submitting force for those documents to be obtained before admission is considered.
Retired Officers - Officers nearing retirement, and existing retired officers should be aware of this requirement and seek to retain the two salary advice's outlined above when commencing retirement. Once the voluntary donation history of a retired officer has been established there will be no further requirement to submit their copy of salary advices. Problems in meeting this requirement arising in individual cases, particularly where the officer may be long retired, can be discussed further in contact with the charity.
