Jurisdiction of BTP - Consultation
The BTP Federation is in the consultation process along with the Force and other interested parties arid the D.T.LR. on modernising the role of BTP.
The jurisdiction and extra powers part of the document has been separated out to be included in emergency legislation within the next few weeks Due to time-scales the Federation have not been able to consult with all the membership individually but have acted in everybody's interests in our response. We are sure that the end result of this process will benefit all parties. A full copy of the consultation document can be found on the Force Intranet and full details of the Federation response will be circulated shortly.
The main purposes of the proposals remain: -
- Creating an independent national police authority for the BIP.
- Placing the jurisdiction of BTP constables over the railways on a statutory basis.
- To bring the BTP within the scope of certain police legislation that currently provides powers to other police forces but excludes BTP.
The Federation Management Committee has met on this issue and will continue to make representations to the relevant parties.
