FREQUENT ENQUIRIES - PENSIONS
The following answers to queries have been provided by the
Secretary of the British Transport Police Superannuation Fund.
Q. An officer is at present contributing to our Pension Scheme they
intend to retire with 30 years service after April 2006. They will only
be 50 years old, will they be entitled to claim a pension from age 50.
A. There should be no change to the present arrangement for officers
who are members of the fund prior to April 2006.
Q. As above question but with a retirement date after April 2010.
A. There should be no change to present arrangements for those joining the fund before 6 April 2006.
Q. A transferee joins the B.T.P. and Pension Fund before April 2006 will
they be able to retire at 50 years of age.
A. There should be no change to present arrangements for those joining before 6 April 2006.
Q. A transferee joins B.T.P. after April 2006 what then.
A. Anyone joining the fund after 5 April 2006 is likely to loose the right to retire before age 55 after April 2010. Between April 2006 and April 2010 they could however still retire once they are 50.
Q. An officer transfers out of the B.T.P. into a Home Office Force and joins their Pension Scheme will they be entitled to retire at 50.
A. This question will have to be answered by the Home Office.
Q. An officer leaves B.T.P. and freezes his pension, if that officer is not 50 until after April 2006 when can they claim their pension.
A. If an officer in this situation is 50 and chooses to draw his pension
before 2010 that should be possible. From 2010 they would have to wait until age 55.
NB. Officers seeking to transfer after April 2006 should seek
specialist advice from Pensions Management.
