Busy summer on the roads: a message from the RAC

Every summer, increased traffic causes chaos across the UK. And with the staycation boom, the roads will be busier than ever this year.

What this means for you

You're likely to get stuck in traffic so prepare for delays. Vehicles are breaking down more as they have been used less through lockdown. If you break down, there may be a long wait for help. RAC drivers cannot legally use the hand shoulder so may be stuck in the same jam you are, and they must prioritise their most vulnerable customers.

What you can do to help

It's important to make sure your vehicle is fit for the road before you set off. All it takes is a few easy checks, as explained here https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/know-how/regular-car-checks/

Make sure your tyres are in good condition. Top up on your oil, coolant, and screenwash if you need to. Check your lights too. These are easy checks, but they really can help you avoid a breakdown.

Group insurance members

If you are a member of the BTP Federation Group Insurance, you have RAC cover as part of the package. If you break down or need assistance, reporting a breakdown online at www.rac.co.uk is the quickest way to get help. Enter your scheme code in the in the 'Membership Number' field.

Non-members will be charged the usual call out fees by the RAC.
